This Autumn, an international team of 12 climbers from Australia, India, China, Spain, Italy, Switzerland and Austria assembled at the base camp of Mt Manaslu (8,163m), 8th highest mountain in the world. The team members ranged in age from 20 to 58 years. All are experienced climbers with about half having summited Mt Everest and the remainder attempting their first 8,000m peak. Due to weather conditions, our climbers arrived at MBC on different dates but by the first week of September, most of them have started their climbing rotation. The weather has been variable but on the 25th of September, it was 'all clear'. Our first successful summit occurred on the 27th September and the last team of seven climbers finally summited on the 29th September. Our expedition was supported by a team of ten highly experienced climbing Sherpas and four base camp staff. Our climbing Sherpas setup the base camp and four high camps ahead of our climbers, and also cached the necessary oxygen cylinders at the high camps ahead of time. Two birthdays were celebrated and needless to say, our head chef baked two cakes to celebrate those occasions, plus one more cake to celebrate the safe return of all our climbers and Sherpas on the 29th September evening. We scored a 100% success rate with no incidences.
